We'd like to update everyone on some things that have been going on in the GameSyn community.


First, if you haven't already checked out Real Life Achievements Redux! you should do so now. Basically you do things in real life, earn achievements and hopefully have a nice little icon to show for it. There are a good bit of icons done already but anyone that knows Inkscape and is willing to do more feel free to contact asceth.


Next something should be said about being an admin on the GameSyn servers. We appreciate people who feel as though they can help keep the server clean but before you run off asking for admin make sure you will put the other players before yourself. Yes its easy to cheat a bit with newfound admin powers but before you apply to be an admin, ask yourself if you're doing it for you or for the other gamers on the server. If its the latter, feel free to appy we'd love to have you.


Finally something I've kept a secret until now. GameSyn has its own chat network. Yes you heard right. The best part is that its hooked up straight to the site so your username and password will work for the chat network as well. To connect you need a XMPP/Jabber client. I personally use Pidgin which lets you sign on to AIM, MSN, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber networks with different usernames all at once.

Now when you get your client your username will actually be username@gamesyn.net so in my case it would be asceth@gamesyn.net (If your username has a space in it replace each space with \20 for it to work). Your password is the same as your forum password. If your client asks for a username and a domain then you should put your forum username for the username and gamesyn.net as the domain. (Notice you don't combine the username and domain if it is asking you for both already).

Once you connect you may not notice much. Open a chat room (Buddies -> Join a chat in Pidgin) and go into the room "lobby" without the quotes. If it asks for a server simply use chat.gamesyn.net.

If I find a good web client I'll put it up for everyone to use as well. That's all I have for now. I'll keep you posted on any updates.
