I'm planning to get this case:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4146085&CatId=1510

and this processor + mobo deal.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5073746&CatId=1599

I was wondering if there will be a huge jump from my old 2.66gGHz Pentium D to a Pentium Core 2 Duo E7500 / 2.93GHz

Nice case : ( Good cpu, good bargain mobo. I'm just not a fan of only 2 ram slots and it can only support up to 800mhz, only 1 pci-e slot. Not really cons just what you get for what you pay for, things to take into consideration.

But dude, if your stateside newegg that shit, so much cheaper.

about $180 for both on newegg vs $240 on tigerdirect yeah that's $60 bucks which is a decent amount of savings!

As for processor performance you should see an improvement from the higher clock speed (obvious) but mainly the fsb speed on the E7500 is double of your old pentium D also a larger L2 cache. Also newer fabrication process, made at 45nm as opposed to 90 nm so it will take less power and run cooler. It won't be a huge jump in gaming performance but I would guess at least 10-20 fps maybe (really depends on the game if it's cpu intensive or not), because most of that fps comes from your gfx card so if you want to see huge visual improvements sink your money into a gnarly card.

I'm in Canada Lightning, so I can't newegg that shit. :C

I have a XFX Geforce 9800 GT btw and my desktop can't run TF2 at a almost steady 60fps, but my laptop which has a core 2 duo at 2.40ghz and a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 can run TF2 at 60fps.

So what do you think my fps would be with the new cpu + mobo + my 9800 gt?

Canada ehh? WOuld have never guessed, nevermind on the newegg then, sorry. Thought you were state-side.
Honestly I have no idea and I don't really want to make up figures... The newer Core 2 duo will definently give you better performance. What's your budget?

On my machine which has an Athlon 64x2 6000+ (which the E7500 would out perform by a little bit even though it has a slightly slower clock speed) and a radeon 4890 I run Tf2 on all highest settings anywhere from 60(absolute lowest I've seen it) to 200+ so speculating fps is hard.

ok i know a better deal it's not a mobo+CPU combo but it's the same money and it's better

CPU E7500: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4389472&CatId=2396

and the new mobo: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5516401&CatId=1572

I personaly think it's better then your mobo+CPU, and it's the same $$

I agree with ^ about the new mobo, the only thing is keep in mind that board is Ddr3 so if you were planning on reusing your old ram you will be out of luck.

Here's a Gts250 for only 130 http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4843000&CatId=3585 that would give you about a 15% increase in fps.

Or you could go with a 4870 or 4890 but I looked on Td and they were all $220+ and I'm not really sure of your budget.

oh it can do SLI but i dont know if it's ready for CrossfireX

Uh well I'm getting that case for sure, I'm suppose to stay under $400 but if it goes over a little bit I don't really mind.

Also I wanna stick with my 9800 GT for now.

Any good mobos that use DDR2 RAM? I use 2 2gig sticks of OCZ RAM at 800MHz and only want to buy a new case and cpu+mobo since everything else was upgraded before already.

i realy think my option is verry good:

CPU: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4389472&CatId=2396

Motherboard: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5388320&CatId=1533

now, you decide...
