THIS IS A TOTAL REPOST OF A POST. NO NEW UPDATES OTHER THAN THE NAME AT THE MOMENT. The name of the map is ℮//Decay until I find something that doesn't suck. ℮//XXX is my naming convention for the moment. I like it. FYI that is not an e but an ℮ they are different. I decided to incorporate my idea and merge it with asceth's. In short, it's a real world but slowly being brought into one weird digital/binary place of decay. Oddly enough, inspiration for this map concept came from a recycled Age of Chivalry map idea I had that was originally going to be called Monolith, but, like most of my ideas, nothing came of it. Map Summary: On a remote island somewhere in the Pacific, an outbreak of evil, murderous GEOMETRIC SHAPES have decided to eliminate the ENTIRE POPULOUS, hoping to eventually enslave and/or eat ALL OF THE UNIVERSE. But that's ok, because you and your trusty second-hand militia have come to liberate the island of its supposed rulers! However, the mission won't be simple. Through some unknown means, the machine can control the surrounding Geoms and even create them. Even worse, space-time becomes distorted the closer one gets to the machine, and it rapidly causes the surrounding area to decay and become corrupt, turning it into a digital like environment. Nonetheless, the objective is clear: destroy the machine, save the island, and make sure that you can have one hell of a beach party after those damned Geoms are gone! In advanced, sorry for the crappy cellphone camera quality. I don't have a scanner that's any good and I can't do anything close to this without a tablet.

Anyway, I'll start going through some basic map legend info: Upward arrows indicate an uphill progression Amazingly detailed boxes and rectangles are buildings Letters are points of interest A: The Beach The survivors(???) arrive at the beach docks via boat, and hop off at the docks. They then proceed along the beach and arrive at... B: The Town The remains of a small settlement, debris has inconveniently left only a dangerous, and linear path open through it. However, the town is still littered with supplies that the unsuspecting beach dwellers left behind... Passing through the town leads the survivors to an uphill trail, that eventually leads to... C: Cliffside Alpha An expansive cliff overlooking the ocean. Jumping off at this point to escape the oncoming Geom onslaught wouldn't be the brightest of ideas, unless you weren't looking to save your own life. This is the least fleshed out area of the map. I'm not sure what to do here at this point. Proceeding on from the cliff leads to a blazed path leading around a mountainous spire. This, in the end, runs into D. D: The Excavation Site A small mining facility on the island that at one time contributed to the population's prosperity, it no longer operates as the precious, undersea metals have all but dissipated. However, abandoned supplies and utilities litter the surrounding area, some of which might prove to be just the perfect re-purposed weapon. A short uphill path leads to the dangerous... E: Cliffside Bravo Unlike its predecessor, this cliff proves to be a possibly even greater threat than the Geoms themselves. Unstable ground covers its area, and the shaky barrier above seems to rain with debris. Intensifying the issue is the fact that the stretch of cliff is uphill. Those that still continue through the treacherous path meet with a strikingly beautiful sight up ahead... F: Cliffside Charlie This scenic cliff is the closest thing to a reprieve that the survivors will ever get on this island, at least with the machine still operating. It offers an expansive and euphoria-inducing view of the island, the town, and the delicate ocean beyond. However, it is clearly not perfect, as the decaying, digitalized route ahead leads to their oppressor. G: The Machine The unidentified piece of technology is as wondrous as it awe-inspiring. As it slowly pulses with life, deadly Geoms are pumped out of its mechanized openings, ready to kill. Giant cables (TOTALLY NOT PICTURED) ascending to the collapsing sky reach above, pumping the machine full of the liquid that keeps it alive. The only way to stop the influx of Geoms is to detonate the machine, and that's one thing the survivors have been waiting to do for a long time... So yeah, uh, that's basically it I guess. I like the design personally as it gets a lot of use out of a relatively minimal amount of space, and it could give you a couple of shocking scenes if the AI works out alright (being on the beach while Geoms spilled over the cliff might be a scary sight). Not much to add past that though, let me know what you think. I also don't have a name for it yet. Contribute to that also, I need one, and don't make it something stupid and obvious like "Machine" or "Island," give me something with substance. |

This level gives me a lot to work with in terms of development milestones. I'm effectively hijacking this thread and I may be shooting myself in the foot in the future by using this as the development level but we'll see. I'd give an initial roadmap but it wouldn't be exciting so I'll hold off.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
