alright, this probably isnt has big of an issue that is usualy posted here, but its annoying me to death.
when im playing anything running off of hl2 engine( hl2, zombie panic, zombie masters, ect) the program will just randomly shut down. usualy it just says that there was a problem with the hl2 engine, and leaves it at that. other times it will give a little more detail, but nothing that a non-tech person (such as myself) understands.
so, do any of you have any idea on what i could do to try to fix this? do i just need to update steam/hl2?

any advice will be greatly appreciated
EDIT:it will say (about half the time):Failed to lock index buffer in CMeshDX8::LockIndexBuffer

Looks like you're using DX8 which may be the cause of it. Try updating your video card drivers to get the latest compatibility.

Aside from that it just may be that hl2 as issues with DirectX8 video cards.

Well there's your problem!

Do you have XP or Vista?

You should get DX9 before getting DX10 since your graphics card may not support it.

Can you list your specs please?

Woah woah. Hang on. I googled the problem. Looks like this error is very popular among ATI cards.

Check your card AND your DirectX drivers. You either have faulty card drivers or you might have Windows XP that doesn't have support for DX10.

Hope this helps.
