I've been wanting to upgrade my computer for about two years now...but I've just recently gotten a job and now I have enough money to actually do it. So here's what I plan on purchasing, tell me what you guys think:

XFX GeForce 9800 GTX graphics card

OCZ GameXStream 700-watt Power Supply

EVGA nForce 680i Motherboard + Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor 2.40GHz OEM + 2GB OCZ DDR2 Memory

And that's really all I need, I think. I have a case and two DVD drives and plenty of hard drives...I think I may buy a new CPU fan/heatsink, though.

SO GUYS, WHAT DO YOU THINK? Is there anything I can get cheaper somewhere else? What would be a good CPU fan thingy?

Do I really need 700 watts?

Yeah, I just threw in the poll for the hellofit.
EDIT: Woops, I accidently submitted it early. I meant to add a "Less than 600" option. Oh well.

Yeah, I thought about getting Vista...maybe later. I thought XP was better, though...? Vista doesn't support as many games, does it?

Go for 4 gigs of ram especially if your getting a 9800GTX...

In all honesty. I hate vista. Eats up all my RAM. I also had to quit gunz because it's not compatible with it and my game shuts down every 5-10 minutes.

Get 2 sticks of 2GB ram for a total of 4GB like Dman says. You should do price comparisons on newegg to make sure you're getting the best deal.

Not going into any OS war.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with the 4GB RAM bundle for $50 more. I've checked newegg and other places, and tigerdirect is either cheaper or the same price. I've been using tigerdirect for awhile; I trust them.

Everywhere I go, I get mixed views on Vista...some say it's great, some say it's horrible. I think I'll just see if I can get it for free, and if not then I'll just stick with XP for a little while longer.

Some people think I should get a smaller or larger PSU; why's that and what do you recommend? And what CPU fan/heatsink do you guys recommend?

Sorry for all the questions...I always do a lot of research and comparing before I buy anything, which is a very rare occasion.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR INPUT SO FAR!

everywhere i look i hear gunz works fine on vsta. also, how much ram do you have? the reccomended is 1gig(which my pc has no trouble with at all)

You'll never use all of the 700W in your power supply. Make sure you are getting an energy efficient one as well.

If you go the custom cpu fan/heatsink route make sure you use artic silver paste between the heatsink and cpu. It drastically cools the cpu because it provides better heat transfer to the heatsink than the stock pads that come with most heatsinks. I would go to newegg and read reviews on various heatsinks/cpu fans and then price compare on some you find worth your while.
