May 2009 Update

Gaming News!

TF2
GameSyn now has a TF2 server hosted by Zeitlos Eisen so be sure to check it out! It used to be just an idle server but with the recent update (see below) it is now a normal pub server.

Spy/Sniper Update
With the Spy/Sniper updates out for TF2 valve decided to implement a new system for acquiring the class unlockable weapons through a sort of lottery system. Yet it was a broken incomplete system. With a flood of complaints from users Valve decided to reenable the old system through achievement milestones. With that said there are still more rare items like different skins head which are done through the lottery system.

Zombie Panic
The zombie panic community recently concluded a map making contest. The contest was to recreate the classic map Club Zombo. The winners were two members of the NeoTokyo team Deej & Ivy. They did a great job if you ask me. You can check out the two runners up and the winning map on their forums at this link.

Admins
I've been trying to think of ways to help you community members get to know who the various Gsyn admins are as well as being able to contact them. This lead me to put together this spreadsheet which details all the different servers and which users have admin on the GSyn servers. I hope it is helpful get some use!

E3 2009
E3 Has come and gone in the the time it took me to post this. So you all have probably heard this but Valve has announced that they will be releasing Left 4 Dead 2 November 17th! Which is a surprising turn of events. I was predicting HL2:Ep3 and still wish it was that but hey whatever. The game is supposed to have new weapons (including melee!) 5 new campaigns and 4 new characters. You can check out a full list of who was there here.

NMRiH
I've recently joined as a story witter for the HL2 mod in progress NMRiH. As the game doesn't really have a story that you follow in game we are writing to help set the backdrop for the game until it's release some time this summer. This past month we released our first part of the story you can check it out here. Oh and we will be releasing another document very soon. (But you didn't hear that from me...)

June Member of the Month: Ranma!
I was feeling quite sick when editing the rough draft for this update when I realized that I had forgotten to get a member of the month story from someone. When all of a sudden an steam friends window pops up with Ranma asking me a question, I saw my opening and struck! He agreed to write his story and the following is what he came up with:

Quote by Ranma:
"It was some time back in 2004. A little boy at 14 enjoying my new game Counter-strike, I was just jumping from server to server playing. But one day, friend brought me to a server and I was just amazed. I saw terrorists flying around on red and blue lights and a menu popped up “Welcome to DtD NeoWarcraft3 mod. Choose your class…” I was spellbound. After spending months I became and admin. About 6 months after that we moved from Counter-strike to Condition Zero. We lost a lot of members in the move, but not all was heartbreaking because…. Zombie Panic! When Zombie Panic came our community grew, tenfold. Bringing a lot of traffic to our CZ server making it more popular than ever. By this time I was now the man in charge of the server, maintaining Uzuki’s server. Let’s skip a few more years to death of DtD and the birth of GameSyn.com. I started small, still running our CZ server and as we grew, so did my responsibilities. From running our Condition Zero server, to our Sven-coop server, and back to our new Condition Zero server, I was all over the play. From them I started to become as active in the community as I was in the servers. From there I was promoted to a GameSyn moderator and now I help moderate the servers and other problems that Dman and Asceth don’t need to be bothered with.

I prefer playing Zombie Panic: Source, but I find myself spending most of my time in our Zombie Master server. But I’m hoping to see if I cant get the AoC server active more. So if you see me sitting alone in there, drop by and let’s see if we can’t fill it up, eh?"

Well shoot there goes another update gone by I'm not as happy as I could be with it but I don't feel up to doing much more... This past month has gone by so fast for me it feels like I just wrote last months post! Along with countless hours of staring at a screen searching for ideas about virus out breaks and the like. Sorry for the delay I was hoping to get over this cold sooner but it just doesn't want to go away. So as always if you have any comments or questions feel free to message me on steam or email me. (Dman757@gamesyn.com) One other option I almost forgot to add is to post in this topic.

Game Spotlight!
Stalin Verses Martians is now on steam. SvM is an interesting RTS that takes place during WW2 its a little different than most of the other WW2 games out there. I haven't had a chance to play it my self but I've been hearing good things about it. I won't even try to explain this game so just check out their website.

Shameless Plug
If you hadn't heard or even care NMRiH the 5 year old zombie modification is finally chugging along again with a fresh new team. They are releasing weekly updates on their progress with some new pictures of weapons and character models. I am really looking forward to this mod with their all orignal content. You can check it out here. Or join me on their irc #NMRiH on irc.gamesurge.net

Player of the Month
Player of the Month will deviated a bit from its old way. I've decided to take KingAbbott's suggestion and interview members on how they came to find GameSyn and stay. So this entails that who ever is interviewed will be the Player of the Month for the month following the news update. This week I was a little unprepared so I thought I would write my story for those of you who haven't heard it before. I've told it countless times and the dates may not be precisely correct but I will try my best.

May Member of the Month: Dman757
It all started some time in 2004-2005 when I stumbled upon the Counterstrike 1.6 Dusk Till Dawn (DtD) server. I was relatively a new player to the game and didn't know much. At the time Steam looked just a shadow of what it does now with almost no features other than being an annoyingly buggy program you needed in order to play Halflife:1 games. Well anyway I remained part of DtD for a while until there was some drama I was banned for from the forums and servers by one of the old leaders for no given reason. Though that didn't last since everyone knew and liked me somewhat, even though I still didn't feel like coming back so I left and didn't look back. Several months passed I stayed away from the servers and forums and joined up other places like a Day of Defeat clan or the No More Room In Hell community to name two. Though as the months went on I decided one day to check back on the DtD forums to see that everyone had moved to this thing called GameSyn and that Asceth was running it. I had known Asceth from way back when and decided to check it out. I was just by chance after months of inactivity that I found out about GameSyn only days after it was created. I was a little reluctant at first I didn't post that often and trolled a bit. Though as time went on I played on the servers and got to know people, it was fun and I decided I liked it here so I stayed. This May 16th will mark my second year since joining GameSyn.

Which wraps up this update for this week. The true inspiration for me to start posting updates again is the marking of my second year at GameSyn. It's a little rough around the edges but I am happy with what I have for this month. If you have anything to add or comment on post it here or send me an email at Dman757@gamesyn.com

*Update Added a L4D update to the games section.
